A Quick Chat with Zack of Goatwhore

First of all, I would love to thank you for taking the time out of your touring schedule to do an interview with me. I recently saw Goatwhore for the first time back in May. I was blown away.

Not a problem. Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Your latest album, “Vengeful Ascension”, is brutal as hell. What was your favorite part on writing the album?

That’s a tough one to answer because each song was exciting in its own way. I think the whole process itself is kind of a journey where over time the songs develop and gain more of an identity. That’s probably the coolest part; seeing the songs evolve from a simple idea into the end result.

The band performed at Knotfest in Colombia, how did it go? Any fun stories?

It was great! We had a ripping set and the crowd was very enthusiastic. It was fun to have some hotel debauchery with our friends in Revocation and Iron Reagan. Watching Judas Priest is always a treat as well. I’d say the trip was a success.

Your tour began on Halloween in your home state. Any of the band members dress up for the occasion?

Nothing out of the ordinary from the leather and spikes we normally wear. I guess Halloween is an everyday thing with us when it comes to that. The fans had some interesting attire though.

Quite a few Goatwhores running around.

Is there any specific cities you’re looking forward to performing in?

All of them! There are several places we haven’t played in about a year so it’ll be good to get back. This is our first proper headlining tour for this record so it’ll be a good chance to play a longer set for people who may be used to seeing us player shorter sets.

GOATWHORE continues to tour in support of Vengeful Ascension. Released last June via Metal Blade Records, it is their seventh full-length and highest charting album to date. MetalSucks named the production, GOATWHORE‘s, “most vital album since 2006’s A Haunting Curse,” and one, “guaranteed to frighten your grandmother directly into her grave.” Blabbermouth gushed, “Vengeful Ascensionproves that the band is firing on all cylinders, standing tall as one of extreme metal’s leading bands.” Loudwire concurred, “Vengeful Ascension has extremity black metal fans will dig, groove that will appeal to death metal aficionados and potent guitar work thrash lovers can appreciate.” Pop Matters lauded an offering, “more textured and nuanced than the typical metal record,” while Metal Injection crowned the record the band’s “high water mark… thus far.”
