AMON AMARTH Releases Berserker Full-Length; North American Tour With Slayer, Lamb Of God, And Cannibal Corpse Underway

AMON AMARTH is in the midst of their North American tour with Slayer. The journey will make its way through sixteen cities upon its conclusion at the Xfinity Center Amphitheatre in Mansfield, Massachusetts on May 25th. Additional support is being provided by Lamb Of God and labelmates Cannibal Corpse. See all confirmed dates below.

The tour comes in conjunction with the release of Berserker, AMON AMARTH‘s eleventh full-length studio offering. Out today via Metal Blade Records (North America)/Sony Music (International), the record features twelve monstrous heavy metal anthems. From the disarming melodrama and explosive riffing of opener “Fafner’s Gold” and the brutish simplicity of the rampaging “Crack The Sky,” to the epic fury of “Raven’s Flight” and the grim, gritty storytelling of “Ironside” and “Skoll And Hati,” Berserker is an album full of trademark AMON AMARTH bluster and bite but with every aspect of the band’s sound somehow refined, sonically enhanced, and made vastly more potent, both in terms of metal oomph and emotional power.

Berserker was recorded in Los Angeles with renowned studio guru Jay Ruston (Anthrax/Stone Sour). After recording several rounds of professional demos for the new songs — initially with fellow Swedish metal icon Peter Tägtgren and then later with Ruston himself — the band crossed the Atlantic to make final the recordings in LA, eager to take a fresh approach to the album-making process.

MORBID ANGEL will be touring in support of their Kingdoms Disdained full-length released in 2017 via Silver Lining Music. The critically-lauded record reunites founding guitarist Trey Azagthoth with bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker. Captured at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida and produced by MORBID ANGEL with Erik Rutan, the record delivers eleven pieces of devastatingly dynamic death metal. Rolling Stone hailed a, “cyclone of blastbeat-driven fury punctuated with Azagthoth’s signature heaving, lunging grooves and Eddie Van Halen-on-a-bad-trip solos,” while Metal Injection crowned the record, “one of the band’s most essential efforts,” adding, “the record contains almost wall to wall instant classics, and is not only Steve Tucker’s best album as MORBID ANGEL frontman, but by extension the group’s most genre-defining effort since 1995’s iconic Domination.”

CANNIBAL CORPSE To Kick Off Decibel Magazine Tour With Morbid Angel Later This Month

In less than two weeks, CANNIBAL CORPSE will join Morbid Angel for a co-headlining run on this year’s edition of the Decibel Magazine Tour. A once-in-a-lifetime bill, the trek finds the two legendary death metal units sharing the stage for the first time ever in America. Support will be provided by rising Bay Area brutalizers Necrot and space-obsessed Denver death dealers Blood Incantation. The full tour runs from February 17th through March 14th. CANNIBAL CORPSE will exit the tour following the New York City date on March 7th. Immolation will join the caravan in its final week serving as main support to Morbid Angel.

As previously announced, Erik Rutan will fill in for guitarist Pat O’Brien on all upcoming CANNIBAL CORPSE dates as O’Brien tends to personal issues. Rutan has produced four albums with CANNIBAL CORPSE (KillEvisceration PlagueTortureRed Before Black) and is uniquely equipped to fill the role – he is one of the death metal’s most acclaimed guitarists and is known for his time as part of Morbid Angel throughout the ’90s and early 2000s, as well as handling vocals/guitars and production duties for his current band Hate Eternal.

The latest issue of Decibel includes exclusive interviews with both CANNIBAL CORPSE and Morbid Angel as well as with tour’s co-conspirators. Don’t miss this issue! Order yours today at: https://store.decibelmagazine.com/collections/back-issues/products/march-2019-173.

CANNIBAL CORPSE released their acclaimed Red Before Black full-length last year via Metal Blade Records. Many words come to mind when you hear the name CANNIBAL CORPSE, but only one truly defines the soon-to-be thirty-year death metal veterans: Unstoppable. Produced by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Goatwhore), Red Before Black serves to not only reiterate this but to once more raise the stakes, making it abundantly clear who sets the standard when it comes to manifesting consistently compelling music that is as brutal as it is complex. “Throughout our career, we’ve tried to improve the precision of both our musical execution and our album production, while still maintaining full-on aggression. Red Before Black continues in that direction, but might go even further on the aggressive side of things. It’s definitely precise, but it has a rawness to it that goes beyond anything we’ve done recently,” asserts bassist Alex Webster. “We really worked super hard crafting these songs, practicing them, and getting them where we wanted to be more so than on any of our previous albums,” adds drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz. “And as Alex said, musically I think it’s the rawest sound we’ve had – and at the same time I think it’s our most focused, tightest, and catchiest record.”

CANNIBAL CORPSE Confirmed For Eighth Annual Decibel Magazine Tour With Morbid Angel, Immolation, Blood Incantation, And Necrot

Since its launch in 2012, the annual Decibel Magazine Tour’s ambitious curation has unified artists from around the extreme universe who would otherwise never have the opportunity to tour together. The lineup for the 2019 Decibel Magazine Tour once again breaks new ground, as legendary death metallers CANNIBAL CORPSE and Morbid Angel join forces for the first time ever in America to coheadline the winter tour. Rising Bay Area brutalizers Necrot and space-obsessed Denver death dealers Blood Incantation round out this once-in-a-lifetime bill. New York death metal icons Immolation will join the final week of the tour as main support to Morbid Angel, as CANNIBAL CORPSE exit the tour after the New York City date.

“We’re really looking forward to our second appearance on the Decibel Tour; they always put together a killer lineup and this time is no exception,” says CANNIBAL CORPSE bassist Alex Webster. “We’re particularly excited to be hitting the road with our friends Morbid Angel. In fact, this will be the first time we’ve toured together in the US.”

“Everyone here in the Morbid Angel camp are stoked to do this tour with CANNIBAL CORPSE,” says Morbid Angel bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker. “To celebrate, Morbid Angel will be performing a mean-ass set of songs that will cover the entirety of our years of kicking ass.”

“We will be adding some of the older songs back to our set,” assures Morbid Angel founding guitarist Trey Azagthoth. “See you all there.”

Presented by Metal Blade Records, and sponsored by Silver Lining Music, Tankcrimes, Dark Descent Records, and Nuclear Blast America, the Decibel Magazine Tour is once again poised to be the heavy metal tour of the winter.
